To augment his writing skills, Bruce learned to play all of the woodwind, keyboards, percussion, and electronic instruments. He was listed in the British Musician Union Directory as being the most-versatile intrumentalist in the United Kingdom.

The world's biggest and smallest keyboards. The one on the left was a one-time set for the Miss World TV show. It cost £5,000,000 to set up, and was broken up the day after the show. The keyboard on the right is the Melodica, featured by Bruce for many years in his one-man keyboard concerts.
